Body and Soul, Temporal and Eternal

Therefore we don't faint, but though our outward man is decaying, yet our inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is for the moment, works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory; while we don't look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

As followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, our purpose is to share His Good News with as many as we possibly can. This work consoles and strengthens us. We are not exhausted, desponding, or disheartened. Rather, we are sustained, encouraged, and emboldened. And while our body perishes, our soul is constantly renewed; while our body is enfeebled, our soul is constantly strengthened; while our body grows old and decays, our soul constantly renews its youth and is invigorated.

To be sure, the things which can and do happen to us in this life, range from the annoying to the tragic. But these last for only an instant, and their weight seems as nothing when compared to the great joy and eternal glory that is to come.

Though we experience the trials and sorrows of this life, our focus is beyond them. This spiritual perspective lightens our present load and allows to more easily recognize and accept the ever-present grace that our Lord provides.
