July 19 — Running with Endurance
Therefore, since we
are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every
encumbrance and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with endurance
the race set out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter
of our faith…
The life of faith is a
journey that unfolds over time. There are seasons of energy and clarity, and
there are seasons that require perseverance and steady endurance. Not every
step feels strong, but each step matters. “…let us throw off every
encumbrance…” Some things slow us down—not always because they are wrong, but
because they weigh on us. Distractions, unnecessary burdens, and patterns of
thought can quietly hinder our progress.
Pause and reflect: What
might be weighing me down right now? Are there habits, concerns, or
distractions that are making it harder to move forward in faith? “…and the sin
that so easily entangles…” Other things hold more tightly. These are the
patterns that pull us away from God’s direction and make our steps uncertain.
Naming them honestly is the beginning of freedom. “…let us run with endurance…”
Endurance is not about speed—it is about persistence. It is choosing to
continue, even when the path feels long or progress feels slow. Your journey is
not meant to match anyone else’s. It is the race set before you. “Let us fix
our eyes on Jesus…” This is where endurance finds its strength. When our focus
shifts to circumstances, we can grow discouraged. But when our attention
returns to Christ—His faithfulness, His example, His presence—we find renewed
direction.
Today, consider one step
you can take to move forward. It may be releasing a burden, turning away from a
pattern that entangles, or simply choosing to continue where you feel tempted
to stop. You might pray, “Lord, help me to keep my eyes on You.” You are
not running alone. You are sustained by grace, surrounded by encouragement, and
guided by the One who leads you forward. And as you continue, even at a steady
pace, you are moving toward what God has set before you.
Loving Father,
—
Hebrews 12:1-2
Thank You for the path You have set before me and for the strength You provide along the way. You know where I feel weary and where I struggle to keep going.
