March 29 – The Cross-Shaped Life

“If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.”
— Luke 9:23

As we draw nearer to Holy Week, Jesus’ words invite us to consider what it truly means to follow Him. The way of Christ is cross-shaped—marked by self-denial, sacrificial love, humility, and obedience. Taking up our cross daily means surrendering our self-centered instincts, letting go of entitlement, embracing costly love, and allowing God to reshape our desires. The cross-shaped life is not a life of misery, but one of deep freedom, joy, and purpose, for it is a life patterned after Jesus Himself.

Take time to reflect on what carrying your cross means today. Ask yourself: Where is Jesus inviting me to let go of my own way? What desires or attitudes need to be surrendered so that Christ can lead me? How is God calling me to love sacrificially—in patience, forgiveness, generosity, or service? Do I see the cross as a burden, or as the gateway to deeper freedom? These questions help uncover the ways Christ is inviting you to follow Him more closely in your ordinary life.

Today, practice the cross-shaped life in one intentional way. Choose a small act of sacrificial love—something that requires humility, patience, or a gentle yielding of self. Offer a sincere apology, listen without defensiveness, help someone without expecting thanks, or forgive a lingering offense. Pray quietly as you do so, “Lord Jesus, teach me to follow You.” Notice how this act deepens your sense of connection to Christ, whose love is always self-giving and redemptive.

Loving Father, thank You for calling me to walk in the way of Jesus. Teach me to take up my cross daily—not with fear, but with faith and willingness. Shape my heart to reflect the sacrificial love of Christ. Help me surrender what hinders me and follow Your Son with courage and joy. All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
