March 31 – Preparing for Holy Week

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross.
— Hebrews 12:2

As we prepare to enter Holy Week, we are invited to slow down, steady our hearts, and refocus our attention on Jesus—His life, His sacrifice, and His redeeming love. Hebrews calls us to “fix our eyes on Jesus,” especially as we reflect on the cross. When we look at Jesus, we see not only the cost of our salvation but the depth of His love. We see a Savior who willingly endured suffering for the joy of bringing us into God’s family. Preparing for Holy Week means preparing our hearts to walk with Jesus, to consider His journey, and to allow His love to shape our own lives more deeply.

Take a moment to reflect on where your heart is as Holy Week approaches. Ask yourself: What has this Lenten journey revealed about me? What truths has God been speaking to my heart this month? Are there distractions or burdens that keep my eyes from focusing on Jesus? What would help me enter Holy Week with reverence, gratitude, and openness? These reflections help you approach the coming days not as a ritual, but as a sacred opportunity for renewed devotion.

Today, take one intentional step to prepare your heart. You might read a Gospel passage about Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem (such as Mark 11:1–11 or Luke 19:28–40), spend time in quiet prayer, or listen to a hymn that draws your attention to Christ’s sacrifice. Consider choosing one spiritual practice to focus on during Holy Week—daily Scripture reading, a time of silence, an act of service, or a commitment to forgiveness. Notice how preparing your heart enriches your anticipation of the days ahead and deepens your gratitude for the One who endured the cross for you.

Loving Father, thank You for Jesus, who endured the cross for the joy set before Him. Prepare my heart for Holy Week. Help me fix my eyes on Christ, reflect on His sacrifice, and walk closely with Him in the days to come. Renew my devotion, deepen my gratitude, and shape me more fully into the likeness of Your Son. All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
