December 27 — John 1:14

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
— John 1:14

With one breathtaking sentence, John captures the mystery and majesty of Christmas: “The Word became flesh.” The eternal Son of God, through whom all things were created, took on human frailty and entered our world as a child. This is the heart of the Incarnation—not God appearing to be human, but God becoming human, embracing our weakness, our vulnerability, and our experience. Christmas is not merely a celebration of Jesus’ birth; it is a celebration of God’s nearness. In Christ, God comes close enough to touch, to speak, to comfort, to save. Advent has been preparing our hearts for this astonishing truth.

John goes on to say that Jesus “made His dwelling among us,” using a word that literally means “tabernacled” or “pitched His tent.” God has chosen not to remain distant but to move into the neighborhood of humanity. He lives among us, walks beside us, and invites us into His life. And as we draw near to Him, we behold His glory—not a blinding, distant glory, but one that is “full of grace and truth.” Jesus does not overwhelm us; He welcomes us. He does not condemn us; He restores us. He is both perfectly truthful and perfectly gracious—the One who reveals God’s heart.

As you reflect on this passage, consider these questions: What does the Incarnation—God becoming flesh—mean for you personally? How does Christ’s nearness shape the way you understand God’s love? Where in your life do you need the grace of Jesus? And where do you need the truth of Jesus? How might you open your heart more fully to the One who came to dwell among us?

For today’s practice, take a moment to rest in silence and imagine Jesus standing beside you—not far away, not unreachable, but present in your very real life today. Whisper the prayer, “Lord Jesus, dwell with me.” Let this moment remind you that Christ’s presence is not seasonal—He came to make His home with you. If you can, write down one way you have seen His grace or truth in your life this year and offer it back to Him with gratitude.

Loving Father,

Thank You for sending Your Son to dwell among us. Jesus, thank You for taking on human flesh and entering our world with grace and truth. Help me welcome Your presence more fully and trust Your love in every part of my life.

In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
