April 24 – The Practice of Gratitude
Rejoice at all times. Pray without ceasing. Give thanks
in every circumstance, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Gratitude is a discipline of resurrection living. Paul does
not tell us to give thanks for every circumstance, but in every
circumstance. Gratitude does not ignore pain or pretend that hardship is good.
Instead, it anchors the heart in the unchanging goodness of God. It trains our
eyes to see grace even when life feels uncertain. Over time, gratitude reshapes
our perspective, softens our complaints, and steadies our trust.
Pause and consider your habitual posture. Ask yourself: Do
I naturally notice what is lacking, or what is given? What blessings have I
overlooked this week? In difficult moments, can I still identify evidences of
God’s presence? How might gratitude shift my inner atmosphere? Gratitude is
not accidental; it is practiced. It becomes a rhythm that recalibrates the
heart toward joy and hope.
Today, begin or renew a simple gratitude practice. Write
down three specific things for which you are thankful—small or large. Speak
them aloud in prayer. If you encounter frustration during the day, pause and
ask, “What gift is present here?” You might express appreciation
directly to someone who has impacted you. Notice how gratitude lightens your
spirit and deepens your awareness of God’s faithfulness. In giving thanks, you
participate in the joy of resurrection life.
Loving Father, thank You for Your constant goodness and
daily mercies. Teach me to rejoice, to pray, and to give thanks in every
circumstance. Open my eyes to Your gifts, both ordinary and extraordinary. Fill
my heart with gratitude that overflows into joy and praise. All this I pray in
Jesus’ name. Amen.
