Call to Community

And let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds. Let us not neglect meeting together, as some have made a habit, but let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
– Hebrews 10:24-25

Christian community is not just a convenience—it is a calling. And not just for comfort, but for encouragement, growth, and action. The writer of Hebrews challenges us to be intentional in how we interact with others in the body of Christ. We are to consider, to think about, to strategize—how we can stir one another toward love and good works.

This call becomes especially important when we are among believers who think or interpret things differently than we do. The temptation might be to avoid, withdraw, or critique. But this passage urges us not to abandon fellowship, but to deepen it—not to isolate, but to encourage.

Encouragement is not flattery. It’s the spiritual art of reminding someone of who they are in Christ and who they are becoming. It’s seeing the good in them and calling it forth. And it requires proximity. We can’t encourage each other from a distance of silence or suspicion—we need to meet, talk, listen, pray, and build each other up.

Questions

1. Do you make space in your life to encourage others in the faith, even when you disagree with them?

2. What keeps you from connecting with fellow believers whose views or practices are different from yours?

3. How can you be more intentional about spurring others on to love and good deeds?

Suggested Activity

Identify one believer in your life who may feel isolated, discouraged, or overlooked. Reach out to them—through a call, a message, or a personal visit—and offer a word of encouragement. Let them know they are seen, valued, and needed in the body of Christ.

Prayer

God of community and compassion,

Thank You for calling me into a body of believers. Help me not to avoid those who challenge me, but to draw near in love. Give me words that encourage, actions that bless, and a heart that longs to build others up. Let me be a source of hope and strength to my brothers and sisters as we walk this road together.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
