April 1 - The Humility of Christ
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus:
Who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something
to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in
human likeness.
— Philippians 2:5-7
Holy Week begins by turning our attention to the humility of
Jesus. Though He existed in the very form of God, He chose not to cling to
status, privilege, or power. Instead, He emptied Himself. He stepped
downward—into humanity, into servanthood, and ultimately toward the cross. This
self-emptying love reveals the heart of God. True greatness, in the kingdom of
God, is not found in dominance or recognition, but in surrender and service.
Pause and reflect on the posture of your own heart. Ask
yourself: Where am I tempted to grasp for control, recognition, or security?
In what situations do I protect my status instead of serving? What might it
look like for me to “empty myself” in love today? These are not questions
of self-condemnation but invitations into Christ’s way. Humility is not
weakness; it is strength shaped by love. It frees us from constant
self-protection and opens us to deeper trust in God.
Today, practice Christlike humility in one intentional way.
Choose a hidden act of service—something that brings no applause or
acknowledgment. Offer patience where you might normally insist on being right.
Yield your preference for the sake of peace. Speak gently where pride would
rise. As you do, quietly pray, “Lord Jesus, form Your mind in me.”
Notice how humility shifts your inner posture and brings a quiet steadiness to
your spirit.
Loving Father, thank You for revealing Your heart through
the humility of Christ. Teach me to let go of pride and grasping, and to walk
in the self-giving love of Your Son. Shape my mind to reflect His, and help me
serve with sincerity and grace. As I enter this Holy Week, draw me deeper into
the mystery of Christ’s humble obedience. All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
