May 12 — Kindness and Goodness

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life.”
— Ephesians 2:10

Kindness and goodness are often expressed in simple ways, yet they carry deep spiritual significance. Paul reminds us that we are God’s workmanship—formed with intention and purpose. We are not only saved from something, but also created for something: to walk in good works that God has already prepared. This means that opportunities to reflect kindness and goodness are not random interruptions; they are part of the life God has designed for us.

Kindness is the outward expression of a compassionate heart. It shows itself in attentiveness, gentleness, and care. Goodness goes a step further—it is a commitment to what is right and beneficial, even when it requires effort or sacrifice. Together, they reflect the character of God in everyday life.

Take a moment to reflect: How do I respond to the opportunities around me? Do you notice when someone needs encouragement, help, or understanding? Or do you move quickly through your day, focused on your own responsibilities? Often, the opportunities for kindness and goodness are small and easily overlooked—a kind word, a patient response, a thoughtful act.

Today, ask God to make you attentive. As you go through your day, look for one opportunity to act with kindness or goodness. It may be something simple—a word of encouragement, an offer to help, or a moment of listening. When you see the opportunity, step into it with willingness, trusting that God has prepared it for you.

Over time, kindness and goodness become more than occasional actions—they become a way of life. As you walk in the good works God has prepared, your life begins to reflect His heart more clearly, and others experience His grace through you.

Loving Father,

Thank You for creating me with purpose and for preparing good works for me to walk in. Open my eyes to the opportunities around me to show kindness and goodness.

Help me not to overlook the small moments where I can reflect Your love. Shape my heart to be attentive, compassionate, and willing to act. Let my life be an expression of Your grace to those I encounter today. Guide me to walk faithfully in the path You have prepared for me.

All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
