May 10 — Peace Beyond Understanding

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
— Philippians 4:7

There is a kind of peace that circumstances can give—and just as quickly take away. But Paul speaks of a different kind of peace. It does not come from everything going well, nor does it depend on clarity or control. It is the peace of God, and it surpasses understanding. It does not always make sense. It does not always explain itself. Yet it is real, and it is steady.

This peace acts as a guard. It stands watch over our hearts and our minds, protecting us from being overwhelmed by anxiety, fear, or uncertainty. It does not mean we will never feel troubled, but it means we are not left unprotected. God’s peace surrounds us, even when questions remain unanswered.

Pause and reflect: What is disturbing my peace today? Is there something you are trying to figure out, fix, or control? Are your thoughts restless, circling around the same concerns? Often, our lack of peace is tied to our desire for certainty. We want to understand everything before we can rest. But this verse reminds us that peace is not the result of understanding—it is the gift of trusting.

Today, when you notice anxiety rising, pause and bring that concern directly to God. You might pray, “Lord, I place this in Your hands.” Then, resist the urge to pick it back up immediately. Let your mind rest, even if answers do not come right away. Peace often enters where control is released.

Over time, you may find that God’s peace becomes familiar—not because life is simple, but because His presence is steady. It is a quiet assurance that you are held, even in uncertainty.

Loving Father,
Thank You for the peace that comes from You—a peace that does not depend on my understanding. You know the concerns that fill my heart and mind, and I bring them before You now.

Guard my thoughts and calm my spirit. Teach me to release what I cannot control and to trust in Your care. When anxiety rises, remind me that Your peace is available to me in every moment. Let Your peace settle deeply within me and guide me through this day.

All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
