May 11 — Patience in Daily Life
“Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, clothe
yourselves with hearts of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and
patience.”
Patience is often formed in the moments we least expect—and
least prefer. It grows not in calm, controlled environments, but in delays,
interruptions, misunderstandings, and unmet expectations. These are the very
places where impatience rises quickly within us. Yet Paul invites us to
“clothe” ourselves with patience, as part of a life shaped by Christ. This
means patience is not merely a personality trait—it is a deliberate choice,
made again and again.
To clothe ourselves with patience is to slow our reactions.
It is to resist the urge to rush, to demand, or to become easily frustrated. It
is to make space—for others to grow, for situations to unfold, and for God to
work in His time. Patience is closely tied to humility, because it acknowledges
that we are not in control of everything.
Take a moment to reflect: Where is my patience being
tested right now? Is it in a relationship, a situation that feels stalled,
or an expectation that has not been met? How do you typically respond in those
moments? Patience is not about suppressing frustration, but about surrendering
it—bringing it into the presence of God and allowing Him to reshape your
response.
Today, when you encounter a moment that tests your patience,
pause before reacting. Take a breath, and pray quietly, “Lord, give me
patience.” Then choose a response that reflects gentleness and
understanding. It may feel small, but these moments are where spiritual growth
takes place.
Over time, patience becomes less forced and more natural. It
begins to reflect the heart of Christ, who is patient with us—steady, gracious,
and slow to anger. As you grow in patience, you become a living expression of
that same grace to others.
Loving Father,
— Colossians 3:12
Thank You for Your patience toward me—steady and full of grace. I confess that I often grow impatient when things do not go as I expect. Teach me to clothe myself with patience in every part of my life.
When I feel frustrated or rushed, help me to pause and turn to You. Shape my responses so that they reflect Your gentleness and understanding. Give me a heart that makes space for others and trusts Your timing. Let Your patience grow within me and be seen in how I live and relate to those around me.
All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
