May 6 — The Indwelling Presence of God

“Do you not know that you yourselves are God’s temple, and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?”
— 1 Corinthians 3:16

It is easy to think of God as near—and yet still distant. We may imagine Him present in churches, in moments of worship, or in certain sacred settings. But Paul offers a truth that reshapes everything: you are God’s temple. His Spirit does not merely visit; He dwells within you. The presence of God is not confined to a place you go—it is a reality you carry.

This truth is both comforting and calling. It comforts us because we are never alone. In every circumstance—whether joyful or difficult, busy or quiet—God is present within us. At the same time, it calls us to live with awareness. If God’s Spirit dwells in us, then our lives become spaces where His presence is honored and reflected.

Take a moment to reflect: How aware am I of God’s presence within me? Do you move through your day as though you are alone, relying solely on your own strength? Or do you recognize that God is near—closer than your own breath? Awareness of His presence changes how we respond. It can bring calm in stress, restraint in temptation, and purpose in ordinary moments.

Today, practice remembering. At several points throughout your day, pause and quietly acknowledge, “God is with me.” You might do this when beginning a task, entering a conversation, or facing a challenge. Let this awareness shape your posture—your words, your reactions, your decisions. You are not carrying your life alone; the Spirit of God is present within you.

Over time, this awareness grows into a steady sense of companionship with God. Life becomes less about seeking His presence in distant places and more about recognizing that He has already drawn near—and has chosen to dwell within you.

Loving Father,

Thank You for the gift of Your presence within me. It is humbling to know that Your Spirit dwells in my life. Too often I forget and live as though I am alone. Help me to grow in awareness of Your nearness each day.

Guide my thoughts, my words, and my actions, that my life may reflect Your presence. When I feel overwhelmed, remind me that You are with me. When I am tempted, strengthen me to honor You. Let my life become a place where Your Spirit is welcomed and at work.

All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
