What You Have Seen and Heard
And he answered them, “Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good news preached to them.”
— Luke 7:22
When John the Baptist sends messengers to ask Jesus if He is truly the One who was to come, Jesus does not respond with lofty theological arguments. Instead, He points to the evidence: lives transformed, bodies healed, hearts restored. The blind see. The lame walk. The lepers are cleansed. The deaf hear. The dead are raised. And the poor receive good news.
This is the unmistakable signature of the Messiah: restoration for the broken, hope for the forgotten, dignity for the outcast. Jesus’ ministry is not distant or theoretical—it is tangible, visible, lived among those most in need. It is a gospel with hands and feet, touching the wounded, lifting the fallen, opening what was closed, and mending what was shattered.
Notice that Jesus specifically mentions the poor having good news preached to them. In a world where wealth often determines worth, Jesus brings honor, hope, and belonging to those who have been pushed to the margins. His kingdom moves outward and downward, meeting people where they are, in their need.
As followers of Christ, this becomes both our encouragement and our calling. What have you seen and heard of Jesus’ restoring power in your own life? How might you become part of His living testimony in the world today? Who around you needs to see—not just hear—the good news embodied in compassion, mercy, and hope?
Today, carry the evidence of Jesus’ love into your relationships, your community, and your daily life. Let the reality of the Kingdom be visible in you.
Jesus,
You revealed Yourself not by lofty words, but by healing wounds, lifting the broken, and proclaiming good news to the poor. Thank You for the ways You have brought sight to my blindness, strength to my weakness, and hope to my despair. Help me to live as evidence of Your mercy. Let my life reflect what I have seen and heard of Your goodness, and may others find hope in You through what they see in me.
I pray in Your name. Amen.
