A New Song to the Lamb

And they sang a new song:

“Worthy are You to take the scroll and open its seals,
because You were slain,
and by Your blood You purchased for God
those from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.
You have made them to be a kingdom
and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign upon the earth.”
— Revelation 5:9-10

This new song is unlike any that came before. It is sung in heaven, around the throne, in the presence of the Lamb who was slain. It rises not from one voice or one nation, but from a multitude—every tribe, tongue, people, and nation—united in praise. And the subject of the song is not merely what God has done, but who Jesus is: the Lamb, worthy to open the scroll, worthy to receive honor, because He gave His life to redeem the world.

Here, music reaches its highest and purest purpose. The song is new, not because it is novel in sound, but because it belongs to the new creation. It is the anthem of salvation, the eternal worship of those whose lives have been transformed by grace. This song is not sung for performance, for memory, or even for comfort—it is sung for the glory of the Lamb who reigns.

You might ask yourself how your songs now are a rehearsal for this song then. Are you mindful, when you worship, that you are part of something far greater than your time and place? That your music joins with the eternal song, the one already being sung in heaven? Do you recognize the dignity of your praise—not because of how it sounds, but because of the One it honors?

Today, reflect on the worthiness of Christ. Let your worship focus not only on what you receive from God, but on who Jesus is—the Lamb who was slain, who lives and reigns forever. Choose a song that draws your attention upward and forward to that day when all will be made new. Sing it with reverence, and with longing. In every note, let your heart be tuned to heaven’s music. Your voice is part of the kingdom’s song, now and forever.

Worthy Lamb of God,

You gave Your life to redeem people from every tribe, tongue, and nation, and You alone are worthy to receive all honor and praise. Thank You for including me in the song of salvation, for making me part of Your kingdom and calling me to serve You. Teach me to worship now as a rehearsal for eternity, to join my voice with the heavenly chorus that already proclaims Your glory. Fix my eyes on who You are—slain and risen, worthy and reigning—and let my praise reflect the awe and gratitude of a heart redeemed by Your blood.

In Your precious name I pray. Amen.
