July 2 — Asking God to Teach and Lead

“Show me Your ways, O LORD; teach me Your paths. Guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior, and my hope is in You all day long.”
— Psalm 25:4-5

There is a difference between choosing our own path and asking God to show us His. Often, we begin with our own plans—what seems right, what feels comfortable, what aligns with our expectations. But this prayer from David invites us into a posture of humility: “Show me Your ways… teach me Your paths.” This is not a request for confirmation of what we already want. It is a willingness to be led somewhere we may not have chosen on our own.

Pause and reflect: Am I asking God to guide me, or am I asking Him to approve what I have already decided? Where might you need to release your preferred outcome and become open to God’s direction? “Guide me in Your truth and teach me…” To be guided by God is also to be taught by Him. His ways shape not only our direction, but our understanding. He leads us into truth—not just information, but a way of seeing and living that reflects His character. “For You are God my Savior…” This is a statement of trust. The One who guides us is also the One who saves us. His direction is not random or distant—it flows from His care, His love, and His commitment to our good. “…and my hope is in You all day long.” This is not a one-time prayer. It is a daily posture. Hope in God is something we carry throughout the day—returning to Him again and again for guidance, clarity, and strength.

Today, consider beginning your day with a simple prayer: “Lord, show me Your ways. Teach me Your paths.” You might pause at different moments—before a decision, during a conversation, or in a moment of uncertainty—and quietly ask for His guidance. God is not reluctant to lead. He welcomes those who are willing to be taught. And as you walk with Him, you may begin to notice that His guidance often comes gently—through Scripture, through conviction, through wise counsel, and through a growing sense of direction shaped over time. You are being led. And you are being taught.

Loving Father,

Show me Your ways and teach me Your paths. Help me to come before You with a humble and willing heart, ready to be guided by Your truth.

Lead me in the direction You desire, and teach me to recognize Your voice throughout my day. You are my Savior, and my hope is in You. Help me to trust You more deeply as I walk with You.

All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
