July 10 — The Fruit of the Spirit

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
— Galatians 5:22-23

Growth in the life of faith is often seen in what is produced over time. Paul describes this growth as fruit—not something forced, but something that develops naturally when a life is rooted in the Spirit. Fruit does not appear instantly. It grows quietly, steadily, and often without immediate notice. “The fruit of the Spirit is…” Notice that this is not a list of separate achievements, but a unified expression of a life shaped by God’s presence. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are not traits we manufacture on our own—they are the result of the Spirit at work within us.

Pause and reflect: Which of these qualities do I see growing in my life? Which feels less present? There is no need for comparison or discouragement. Growth is not the same in every season. Fruit develops as we remain connected. When we walk by the Spirit, as we considered yesterday, these qualities begin to emerge—not perfectly, but progressively. They show up in small moments: a patient response instead of frustration, a gentle word instead of a sharp one, a quiet sense of peace in the midst of uncertainty.

Today, consider focusing on one aspect of this fruit. It may be patience in a difficult situation, kindness in an interaction, or self-control in a moment of tension. You might pray, “Spirit of God, grow this in me.” You do not need to produce all of it at once. You are invited to remain. And as you do, the Spirit continues His work—shaping your character, forming your responses, and producing fruit that reflects the life of Christ within you. Over time, what grows quietly becomes visible. And what is formed within begins to shape how you live each day.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the work of Your Spirit within me. You know where I am growing and where I still need to change.

Continue to produce Your fruit in my life. Shape my character so that it reflects love, peace, patience, and all that comes from You. Help me to remain connected to You and to trust Your work in me.

I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
