July 21 — Seeking First the Kingdom

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.”
— Matthew 6:33
 
 
Life presents many priorities. Responsibilities, needs, goals, and concerns all compete for attention. It is easy to feel pulled in multiple directions, trying to manage everything at once. In the midst of this, Jesus offers a simple but clarifying instruction: “Seek first the kingdom of God…” This is not about adding one more task to your list. It is about ordering your life around what matters most. To seek God’s kingdom is to place His ways, His presence, and His purposes at the center of your thoughts and decisions.
 
Pause and reflect: What is coming first in my life right now? What receives your attention, your energy, and your focus? Are your priorities aligned with what God is inviting you into? “…and His righteousness…” This speaks to the way we live. Seeking God includes desiring to reflect His character—to pursue what is right, just, and good in the way we respond to others and move through our day. “And all these things will be added unto you.” This is a promise of provision, not excess. It is a reminder that when God is first, we do not need to carry everything on our own. He is attentive to our needs and faithful in His care.
 
Today, consider one way to seek God first. It may be beginning your day with prayer, returning to Him in a moment of decision, or choosing to align your response with His ways rather than your own. You might pray, “Lord, help me to put You first today.” You do not need to rearrange everything at once. But you can take one step. And in that step, your priorities begin to shift—not driven by pressure, but guided by trust. When God is first, the rest begins to find its place.
 
 
Loving Father,

 Thank You for inviting me to seek You above all else. You know how easily my attention is divided and my priorities become unclear.
 
Help me to place You first in my life. Guide my thoughts, my decisions, and my actions so that they reflect Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Teach me to trust in Your provision as I follow You.
 
All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
