May 18 — Casting Anxiety on God
“Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”
Anxiety often begins as a quiet weight. It settles into our
thoughts, circles through our concerns, and gradually grows heavier the longer
we carry it. We try to manage it, reason through it, or push it aside, yet it
often remains—pressing on the heart and mind. Peter offers a simple but powerful
invitation: cast all your anxiety on Him.
To “cast” is not a gentle release—it is an intentional act.
It means taking what we are holding and placing it fully into God’s hands. This
requires honesty. We must first acknowledge what we are carrying—naming our
fears, our uncertainties, and our worries. Then, with trust, we release them to
the One who is both willing and able to carry them.
The reason we can do this is just as important as the
command itself: because He cares for you. Not in a distant or general
sense, but personally and attentively. God is not indifferent to your concerns.
He is aware of them, and He invites you to bring them to Him.
Take a moment to reflect: What anxiety am I holding onto
right now? Is there something you revisit again and again in your thoughts?
Something you feel responsible to solve or control? Rather than carrying it
alone, what would it look like to truly release it?
Today, take a few moments to practice this intentionally.
Name your concern before God, and then pray, “Lord, I give this to You.”
If the anxiety returns—as it often does—repeat the act. Casting is not always a
one-time moment; it is a repeated turning of the heart toward trust.
Over time, you may notice that while circumstances do not
always change immediately, your relationship to them does. The weight lessens.
Peace begins to take its place. Not because everything is resolved, but because
you are no longer carrying it alone.
Loving Father,
— 1 Peter 5:7
You know the anxieties that fill my heart and mind. Thank You for caring for me so deeply that You invite me to bring them to You. I confess that I often hold on to what I should release.
Help me to cast my cares upon You with honesty and trust. When worry returns, remind me to place it back into Your hands. Teach me to rest in Your care and to trust that You are at work, even when I cannot see it. Fill me with Your peace, and lighten the burdens I carry.
All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
