May 23 — Serving with Humility

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
— Mark 10:45

Jesus redefines what it means to live a meaningful life. In a world that often measures value by status, recognition, or influence, Jesus points in a different direction. He, the Son of Man, came not to be served, but to serve. His life was marked by humility, sacrifice, and a willingness to place others before Himself. This is not only something to admire—it is a pattern to follow.

Serving with humility begins in the heart. It is not about appearing selfless or gaining approval, but about a genuine desire to care for others. It often takes place in quiet, unseen ways—meeting a need, offering help, listening attentively, or giving time and energy without expectation of return. These acts may seem small, but they reflect the character of Christ.

Take a moment to reflect: How do I approach service? Do you see opportunities to serve as interruptions, or as invitations? Do you serve willingly, or only when it is convenient? Humility shifts our perspective. It reminds us that serving others is not beneath us—it is a privilege shaped by the example of Jesus.

Today, look for one opportunity to serve intentionally. It may be something simple—a kind gesture, a practical act of help, or a moment of presence with someone in need. Before you act, pause and pray, “Lord, let me serve as You would.” Then step forward with a willing heart.

Over time, humility becomes less about lowering ourselves and more about lifting others. As we follow the example of Christ, service becomes a natural expression of a life shaped by His love.

Loving Father,

Thank You for the example of Jesus, who came to serve and to give Himself for others. I confess that I sometimes seek recognition or avoid serving when it is inconvenient. Teach me to grow in humility.

Open my eyes to the needs around me and give me a willing heart to respond. Help me to serve with sincerity, not for praise, but out of love. Shape my life to reflect the servant heart of Christ. Guide me to live in a way that honors You through humble service.

All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
