July 24 — Committing Your Plans to the Lord

Commit your works to the LORD and your plans will be achieved.
— Proverbs 16:3
 
 
We all make plans. We think ahead, organize our responsibilities, and consider what we hope to accomplish. Planning is a natural and often necessary part of life. But this verse gently reminds us that planning alone is not enough. “Commit your works to the LORD…” To commit is more than to mention our plans in passing. It is to place them in God’s hands—to entrust them to His guidance, His wisdom, and His timing. It is an act of surrender as well as intention.
 
Pause and reflect: How do I approach my plans? Do you rely primarily on your own effort and understanding? Or do you intentionally bring your plans before God and invite Him into them? “…and your plans will be achieved.” This promise is not about guaranteeing every outcome we imagine. Rather, it speaks to alignment. When we commit our work to God, our plans begin to take shape according to His will. What is established is not merely what we desire, but what He is guiding. This often involves adjustment. God may refine your plans. He may redirect your efforts. He may lead you in ways you did not initially expect. But in all of this, He is working toward something steady and meaningful.
 
Today, consider bringing one specific plan before God. It may be a decision you are making, a responsibility you are carrying, or something you hope to accomplish. You might pray, “Lord, I commit this to You.” Then remain open. Open to His guidance. Open to His timing. Open to His direction. You do not need to control every detail. You are invited to entrust your work to the One who sees the whole picture. And as you do, your plans begin to reflect not only your effort, but His wisdom.
 
 
Heavenly Father,

 Thank You for the plans and responsibilities You have placed before me. Help me not to rely on my own understanding alone, but to commit my work to You.
 
Guide my plans according to Your will. Give me wisdom, patience, and openness to follow where You lead. Establish what is good and aligned with Your purpose in my life.
 
I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
