July 30 — Pressing Forward
Brothers, I do not
consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting
what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal
to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus.
There are moments when
it is easy to look back. We may revisit past mistakes, missed opportunities, or
even past successes that we wish we could return to. Looking back can shape how
we see ourselves and how we move forward—sometimes in ways that hold us in
place. Paul offers a different focus. “Forgetting what is behind…” This is not
about ignoring the past entirely. It is about refusing to be defined or limited
by it. Whether the past brings regret or comfort, it is not meant to hold your
attention in a way that prevents forward movement.
Pause and reflect: What
from my past am I holding onto that may be slowing me down? Is there
something you need to release—whether regret, disappointment, or even an
attachment to what once was? “…and straining toward what is ahead…” There is
intention here. Moving forward often requires effort—not striving for
perfection, but choosing to continue with purpose. It is a willingness to take
the next step, even when the path requires focus and commitment. “I press on
toward the goal…” The goal is not simply progress for its own sake, but
movement toward God’s calling—a life shaped by Christ, guided by His presence,
and directed toward what is eternal.
Today, consider one way
you can move forward. It may be releasing something from the past, renewing
your focus, or taking a small step in faith. You might pray, “Lord, help me
to press on.” You do not need to carry everything behind you. You are
invited to move forward. And as you do, you are not moving alone—you are being
drawn toward the life God is calling you into, one step at a time.
Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the new direction You give me each day. You know the ways I hold onto the past and how it can slow me down.
