September 22 — In the Name of the Lord Jesus

“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
— Colossians 3:17
 
 
Some moments in life feel especially sacred. We sense God's presence during worship. While reading Scripture. During prayer. Or while serving someone in need. Yet Paul reminds us that God's presence is not limited to those moments. He invites us to see our entire lives as belonging to Christ. “Whatever you do…” There are no ordinary moments for the follower of Jesus. Every conversation. Every responsibility. Every task. Every relationship. Every opportunity becomes a place where Christ can be honored. Whether we are leading or serving… Working or resting… Speaking or listening… God is present.
 
Pause and reflect: How might my day look different if I viewed every task as an opportunity to honor Christ? Are there ordinary responsibilities that I tend to overlook as spiritually unimportant? How might they become acts of worship when offered to Him? “…in word or deed…” Paul includes both what we say and what we do. Our words carry great influence. They can encourage or discourage. Heal or wound. Build trust or create division. Likewise, our actions reveal the values that shape our hearts. Together, our words and deeds become a testimony to the work of Christ within us. “…do it all…” This is one of the most comprehensive invitations in Scripture. God is not interested in only one part of our lives. He desires all of them. The way we treat our families. The way we approach our work. The way we respond to inconvenience. The way we spend our time. Every area belongs to Him. “…in the name of the Lord Jesus…” To act in someone's name is to represent that person. As followers of Christ, we carry His name wherever we go. People often learn something about Jesus by observing those who claim to follow Him. What a wonderful privilege. And what a sacred responsibility. May our lives cause others to think well of our Savior. “…giving thanks to God the Father…” Gratitude transforms ordinary responsibilities into joyful opportunities. Rather than seeing each task as a burden, we begin to recognize it as another chance to serve Christ. A thankful heart changes the way we work.
The way we serve. The way we love.
 
Today, before beginning each responsibility, pause for just a moment. Whether answering an email... Preparing a meal... Helping a neighbor... Having a conversation... Or completing your daily work... Quietly ask, "Lord Jesus, may this bring honor to You." You might also pray, "Help me to represent You well today." Then move through your day with joyful purpose. For Christ is not only present in the extraordinary moments. He is present in the ordinary ones as well. And when every word and every deed are offered to Him, even the simplest acts become beautiful expressions of worship. That is the quiet joy of a life fully surrendered to Christ. Every moment becomes an opportunity to reflect His love. Every task becomes an offering of gratitude. And every day becomes another chance to live in His name.


Heavenly Father,
 
Thank You that every part of my life belongs to You. Thank You for the privilege of representing Jesus Christ through my words and my actions.
 
Help me today to honor Him in everything I do. Let my speech be gracious, my work be faithful, and my relationships reflect His love. Fill my heart with gratitude so that even the ordinary moments of life become acts of worship. May everything I say and do point others to the beauty and goodness of my Savior.
 
I pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
