September 28 — Walking as Jesus Walked
“Whoever claims to abide in Him must walk as
Jesus walked.”
The Christian life is
wonderfully simple. Not always easy. But wonderfully simple. Our calling is to
follow Jesus. Not merely to admire Him. Not merely to believe certain truths
about Him. But to walk as He walked. “Whoever claims to abide in Him…” Throughout
this month we have returned again and again to the image of abiding in Christ. To
abide is to remain close to Him. To make our home in His presence. To depend
upon Him daily. John now reminds us that abiding always produces visible
results. A close relationship with Christ changes the way we live.
Pause and reflect: If
someone watched the way I live each day, would they see evidence that I walk
closely with Jesus? In my conversations, my decisions, my relationships,
and my responses to difficulty, what aspects of Christ's life are becoming more
visible? “…must walk…” The word walk describes our daily pattern of
living. It is not about occasional moments of spiritual enthusiasm. It is about
the ordinary rhythm of everyday life. Step after step. Choice after choice. Day
after day. The Christian life is lived one faithful step at a time. “…as Jesus
walked.” How did Jesus walk? He walked in obedience to His Father. He walked in
compassion toward the hurting. He walked in humility despite His greatness. He
walked in truth without sacrificing love. He walked in forgiveness even toward
those who wronged Him. He walked in prayer, continually seeking the Father's
will. He walked in faithful service, giving Himself for others. Every page of
the Gospels invites us to observe His footsteps. And then to follow them. Walking
as Jesus walked does not mean copying every detail of His earthly life. It
means allowing His character to shape ours. His priorities become our
priorities. His love becomes our love. His humility becomes our humility. His
faithfulness becomes our example. Some days we will walk confidently. Other
days we may stumble. When we do, our Savior does not abandon us. He forgives
us. He restores us. And He gently invites us to continue following Him.
Today, before responding
to the situations you encounter, pause for just a moment. Ask yourself, "How
would Jesus walk through this moment?" Perhaps it is a difficult
conversation. An unexpected interruption. A decision that requires wisdom. An
opportunity to serve. Or someone who needs compassion. You might quietly pray, "Lord
Jesus, help me to walk as You walked today." Then take the next
faithful step. Remember that becoming like Christ is not accomplished in a
single dramatic moment. It happens through thousands of ordinary moments in
which we choose to follow Him. One conversation. One act of kindness. One
decision. One prayer. One step at a time. And with every faithful step, the
image of Christ becomes more clearly reflected in your life. That is the
beautiful journey of every disciple. To walk with Jesus... Until we become more
like Him.
