August 10 — Rest for Your Soul

“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
— Matthew 11:28-30

Weariness is not always physical. Sometimes the deepest exhaustion comes from carrying invisible burdens—worry that never seems to end, responsibilities that feel overwhelming, grief that lingers, or the quiet pressure of trying to hold everything together. Jesus sees that kind of weariness. And His first word is not “Do more.” It is: “Come to Me…” Before Jesus gives instruction, He offers an invitation. He does not ask us to solve every problem before approaching Him. He does not require that we become stronger first. He simply invites us to come.

Pause and reflect: What burden have I been carrying by myself? Is there something that has weighed on your heart for so long that you have begun to think it is yours alone to bear? “…all you who are weary and burdened…” No one is excluded from this invitation. Whether your burden comes from difficult circumstances, broken relationships, uncertainty about the future, or even your own efforts to be enough, Jesus welcomes you. “…and I will give you rest.” Notice the promise. Jesus does not merely offer advice. He offers Himself. The rest He gives is deeper than physical relaxation. It is the quiet assurance that comes from placing your life into His hands. “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me…” A yoke joined two animals so they could walk together. Jesus uses this familiar image to describe discipleship. He is not asking us to carry life alone. He invites us to walk beside Him, learning from Him as we go. “…for I am gentle and humble in heart…” These words reveal the heart of Christ. He is not harsh with those who are weary. He is not impatient with those who struggle. He meets us with gentleness. He receives us with humility. “You will find rest for your souls.” This is the rest we most deeply need. Not merely a break from activity. But a settled heart. A peaceful spirit. A renewed confidence that we are not carrying life’s burdens alone.

Today, instead of simply asking God to remove every burden, consider first bringing those burdens to Jesus. You might quietly pray, “Lord Jesus, I come to You.” Then imagine placing each concern into His hands. Leave your worries with Him. Leave your fears with Him. Leave your unanswered questions with Him. For the One who invites you to come is also the One who promises to walk beside you. And as you walk with Him, you may discover that the burden becomes lighter—not because life has become easier, but because you are no longer carrying it alone.

Loving Father,

Thank You for the gentle invitation of Jesus to come when I am weary. You know every burden I carry, every worry I hold, and every place where I long for rest.

Help me to bring these burdens to Christ instead of carrying them alone. Teach me to walk beside Him, to learn from Him, and to trust His gentle and humble heart. Grant me the deep rest that only You can give, and renew my soul in Your presence.

All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
