August 31 — Come, Lord Jesus

“He who testifies to these things says, ‘Yes, I am coming soon.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen.”
— Revelation 22:20-21

Every journey has a destination. Throughout this month we have learned to trust God more deeply, to surrender our plans into His hands, to receive His peace, and to live with steadfast hope. Yet all of these blessings point beyond themselves to an even greater promise. Jesus is coming again. The Bible closes not with uncertainty but with assurance. “Yes, I am coming soon.” These are among the final recorded words of Jesus in Scripture. For nearly two thousand years, believers have held tightly to this promise. They have faced hardship, persecution, illness, disappointment, and death with the confidence that history is moving toward God's appointed fulfillment. Christ has not forgotten His people. He has not abandoned His promises. The day will come when faith becomes sight, sorrow gives way to joy, and God's redeeming work reaches its glorious completion.

Pause and reflect: How does the promise of Christ's return shape the way I live today? Does this hope encourage you to trust more deeply, love more generously, forgive more freely, and persevere more faithfully? “Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!” John's response is simple, heartfelt, and filled with longing. It is both a prayer and a declaration of hope. Christians do not merely look backward to the cross. We also look forward to the return of our Savior. This hope gives meaning to our present lives. It reminds us that suffering will not have the final word. Sin will not have the final word. Death will not have the final word. Jesus Christ will have the final word. “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints.” How fitting that the Bible concludes with grace. Our journey with Christ begins by grace. It continues by grace. And one day it will be completed by grace when we stand in His presence. Until that day, His grace is sufficient for every challenge we face. As this month comes to a close, take a few moments to look back. Where have you seen God's faithfulness? How has He strengthened your trust? When has He given you peace in uncertain circumstances? How has hope quietly grown within your heart? Give thanks for His work. Then look ahead.

A new month will soon begin, bringing new opportunities to follow Christ, new lessons to learn, and new ways to experience His grace. Walk into those days with confidence. The God who has been faithful in the past will remain faithful in the future. The Savior who walks beside you today will never leave you. And the Lord whose return we eagerly await is even now accomplishing His perfect purposes. So let your heart echo the Church's ancient prayer: "Amen. Come, Lord Jesus." Until that glorious day, may you continue to trust Him, serve Him, love Him, and rest in His unfailing grace.

Gracious Father,

Thank You for Your faithfulness throughout this month and for the countless ways You have guided, strengthened, and sustained me. Thank You for the hope that is mine through Jesus Christ and for the promise that He will one day return to make all things new.

Help me to live each day with confidence, trusting Your promises, resting in Your peace, and sharing Your love with those around me. May Your grace continue to shape my life until the day I see my Savior face to face. Until that day, keep my heart faithful, my hope steadfast, and my eyes fixed upon Christ.

In His holy name I pray. Amen.
