August 15 — Remaining in Christ’s Love

“As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Remain in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love.”
— John 15:9-10
 
 
One of the deepest longings of the human heart is to know that we are truly loved. Not because of what we accomplish. Not because we have everything together. Not because we have earned it. But simply because we belong. Jesus begins with an astonishing truth. “As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you…” Pause and let those words settle into your heart. The love Jesus has for His followers is not a lesser love. It flows from the same perfect, faithful, and enduring love that has always existed between the Father and the Son. This love is not fragile. It does not rise and fall with your successes or failures. It is steadfast. It is faithful. It is given freely. “Remain in My love.” Jesus does not tell us to earn His love. He tells us to remain in it. To remain is to dwell, to abide, to make our home there. It is learning to live each day with the awareness that we are already loved by Christ.
 
Pause and reflect: Am I living from the security of Christ's love, or am I still trying to earn it? Do you find yourself believing that God loves you more on your best days and less on your difficult ones? What would change if you truly rested in His unchanging love? “If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love…” Jesus is not describing a condition for earning His love. He is describing the way we live within it. Obedience is the response of love, not the price of it. Just as healthy branches remain connected to the vine, obedience keeps us close to the One who is the source of our life. It is not about fear. It is about relationship. Every act of trust. Every step of faith. Every choice to forgive, to serve, to love, or to follow Jesus more closely becomes another way of remaining in His love.
 
Today, take a few quiet moments simply to receive this truth: You are loved by Christ. Not because you have done everything right. Not because your faith is perfect. But because His love is steadfast. You might quietly pray, "Lord Jesus, help me to remain in Your love today." Then carry that prayer with you into every conversation, every responsibility, and every decision. For when you know that you are deeply loved, you begin to live differently. You become less driven by fear. Less dependent upon approval. More willing to extend grace. More eager to trust. Because the heart that remains in Christ's love gradually becomes a heart that reflects His love to others.
 
 
Loving Father,
 
Thank You for the immeasurable love You have shown me through Jesus Christ. Thank You that Your love is not based on my performance, but on Your faithful and gracious character.
 
Help me to remain in Christ's love each day. Teach me to live from the security of being Your beloved child, and let my obedience become a joyful response to the love I have already received. May Your love shape my heart and overflow into the lives of those around me.
 
All this I pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
