June 13 — Rooted and Built Up

“Therefore, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him, established in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
— Colossians 2:6-7

Growth takes time. It does not happen all at once, and it is not always visible in the moment. Much of what matters most develops beneath the surface—like roots extending quietly into the soil, drawing strength and stability over time. Paul uses this image to describe the life of faith. “Continue to walk in Him…” The beginning of faith is not meant to be the end. Just as you received Christ—by trust, by openness, by grace—you are invited to continue in that same way. The Christian life is not sustained by a different method than how it began. “Rooted and built up in Him…” Roots speak of depth and stability. Being built up speaks of growth and formation. Together, they describe a life that is both grounded and growing—secure in Christ and continually shaped by Him.

Pause and reflect: What is strengthening my roots right now? Are you taking time to remain grounded in Christ through Scripture, prayer, and awareness of His presence? Or have you been relying more on surface-level strength, without tending to what lies beneath?

Today, consider one simple way to deepen your roots. It may be returning to a familiar passage of Scripture, spending a few quiet moments in prayer, or expressing gratitude for what God has already done. You might pray, “Lord, help me to remain rooted in You.” “…overflowing with thankfulness.” Gratitude is a natural outcome of a life rooted in Christ. As we recognize His work in us, thankfulness begins to rise—not forced, but flowing from awareness. Over time, what is rooted becomes steady. What is built up becomes strong. And what is nurtured in quiet faith begins to overflow in visible ways.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the foundation You have given me in Christ. Help me to continue walking in Him with trust and consistency.

Deepen my roots so that I may be grounded in Your truth. Build me up in faith, and shape my life according to Your will. Let gratitude grow within me as I recognize Your work in my life. Keep me steady and growing in You each day.

I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
