June 3 — Strength for the Weary

“But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.”
— Isaiah 40:31

Weariness comes in many forms. Sometimes it is physical, the result of long days and constant demands. Other times it is deeper—emotional or spiritual—a quiet exhaustion that settles into the heart. Even when we continue moving forward, something within us may feel drained or depleted. Isaiah offers a different way of understanding strength. He does not point first to effort, determination, or endurance. Instead, he speaks of waiting upon the LORD. This kind of waiting is not passive; it is attentive and trusting. It is a posture of turning toward God, acknowledging that our strength is not self-sustained.

Pause and reflect: Where do I feel weary right now? Is it in your responsibilities, your relationships, or your inner life? Have you been trying to carry more than you were meant to carry on your own? The promise is not that weariness will never come, but that renewal is available.

Today, consider what it might look like to “wait upon the LORD.” It may be a quiet moment of stillness, a brief prayer offered in the midst of your day, or simply choosing to pause rather than push forward in your own strength. You might pray, “Lord, I am tired. I need Your strength.” Notice that the promise unfolds in stages—soaring, running, walking. Not every day will feel like soaring. Some days are steady runs, and many are quiet walks. Yet in each stage, God sustains. Strength is not always dramatic. Often, it is the quiet ability to continue. As you move through today, receive what God provides. You do not need to force your way forward. Instead, allow His presence to renew you, step by step.

Heavenly Father,

You know where I feel weary and where my strength feels limited. Thank You for inviting me to come to You rather than relying on myself alone.

Teach me to wait upon You with trust and patience. Renew my strength where I am tired, and sustain me in the steps I need to take today. Help me to walk steadily in Your presence, trusting that You will carry me through.

I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
