June 25 — Renewed Day by Day
“Therefore we do not
lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, yet our inner self is being
renewed day by day. For our light and momentary affliction is producing for us
an eternal glory that is far beyond comparison. So we fix our eyes not on what
is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is
unseen is eternal.”
There are days when it
is easy to feel worn down. Life has a way of taking its toll—physically,
emotionally, and even spiritually. We may notice our limitations more clearly,
feel the weight of ongoing challenges, or simply grow tired in ways that are
hard to explain. Paul acknowledges this reality honestly: “…our outer self is
wasting away…” There is no denial here. The outward struggles, the visible
wear, the passing nature of life—these are real. But alongside this, something
else is happening. “…yet our inner self is being renewed day by day.” Even as
outward circumstances may feel heavy, God is at work inwardly. Renewal is not
always dramatic. It often happens quietly, steadily, day by day—strengthening,
shaping, and restoring the inner life.
Pause and reflect: Where
do I feel worn down right now? Are you focusing primarily on what is
outward and visible? Have you overlooked the possibility that God is renewing
something within you, even in the midst of difficulty? “For our light and
momentary affliction…” These words do not minimize pain, but they place it in
perspective. What feels heavy now is not the final reality. There is something
greater being formed—something lasting and eternal. “So we fix our eyes…” Where
we focus matters. When we look only at what is seen, discouragement can grow.
But when we begin to look toward what is unseen—God’s work, His promises, His
presence—our perspective begins to shift.
Today, consider gently
redirecting your focus. You might pray, “Lord, help me to see beyond what is
in front of me.” Take time to notice signs of inward renewal—moments of
peace, resilience, or quiet trust. You may still feel the weight of today. But
you are also being renewed. And that renewal, though often unseen, is real—and
it is ongoing.
Heavenly Father,
—
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
Thank You for the work You are doing within me, even when I feel worn or discouraged. You see both the outward struggles and the inward need.
Renew me day by day. Help me to fix my eyes on what is eternal rather than what is temporary. Strengthen my inner life, and give me hope that reaches beyond what I can see. Sustain me in Your presence.
I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
