June 4 — A New Creation

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come!”
— 2 Corinthians 5:17

It can be difficult to see ourselves as new. We are often aware of our past—past mistakes, past habits, past ways of thinking. Even as we move forward, those memories can shape how we see ourselves. We may quietly assume that change is limited, that we are still defined by what has been. But this passage speaks a different truth. In Christ, you are not simply improved—you are made new. This is not a surface-level change. It is a transformation at the level of identity. The old does not merely fade; it is replaced. The new is not something you gradually earn; it is something God brings into being.

Pause and reflect: How do I see myself today? Do you primarily identify with what has been, or with what God is doing now? Are there parts of your past that still shape your sense of who you are “Behold, the new has come!” There is an invitation here to notice—to recognize what God has already begun. New desires, new awareness, new direction, even if they feel small or incomplete. These are signs of His work within you.

Today, consider naming one way in which you see God forming something new in your life. It may be a shift in perspective, a growing desire for what is good, or a willingness to respond differently than before. Give thanks for that work, even if it is still unfolding. You are not who you once were. And you are not yet all that you will be. But you are, even now, being made new. Let that truth shape how you walk today—not bound by the past, but open to what God is continuing to create within you.

Loving Father,

Thank You for the new life You have given me in Christ. Thank You that I am not defined by my past, but by Your transforming work within me.

Help me to see myself as You see me—renewed, restored, and being made new. Give me the grace to leave behind what no longer belongs and to walk forward in what You are creating. Continue Your work in me each day.

All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
