June 24 — God Is Our Refuge

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble.”
— Psalm 46:1

Trouble has a way of making us feel exposed. When difficulties arise, we may feel uncertain, vulnerable, or overwhelmed. We look for stability—something or someone we can rely on when everything else feels unsettled. In those moments, where we turn matters deeply. This verse offers a clear and steady assurance: “God is our refuge…” A refuge is a place of safety—a shelter in the midst of danger or uncertainty. It is not a place where trouble disappears, but where we are protected within it. God Himself becomes that place for us. “…and strength…” Not only does He provide shelter, but He also gives the strength we need to endure. Where our own strength feels limited, His remains sufficient. “…an ever-present help in times of trouble.” God is not distant or delayed. He is present—consistently, faithfully, and immediately available. Even when we do not feel it, His presence does not waver.

Pause and reflect: Where do I turn when I feel overwhelmed? Do you try to carry everything on your own? Do you seek comfort in temporary solutions, or do you bring your concerns to God?

Today, consider intentionally turning to God as your refuge. You might take a quiet moment and pray, “Lord, You are my refuge. I come to You.” Allow yourself to rest, even briefly, in that truth. This does not mean that difficulties will vanish. But it does mean that you do not face them alone. Over time, as you continue to return to God in moments of trouble, you may begin to notice a quiet stability forming within you. Not because circumstances have changed, but because your place of refuge has become clear. And in that refuge, there is strength enough for today.

Loving Father,

Thank You for being my refuge and my strength. When I feel overwhelmed or uncertain, remind me that I can come to You.

Help me to rest in Your presence and to trust in Your care. Strengthen me where I feel weak, and surround me with Your peace. Be my help in every moment of trouble.

All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
