June 8 — Walking with What Matters Most

“He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”
— Micah 6:8

There are times when we wonder what God truly desires from us. Life can feel complex, and the expectations we place on ourselves—or feel from others—can grow heavy. We may begin to think that what God requires is complicated or out of reach. But this verse offers a clear and grounded answer. God’s desire is not hidden. To act justly. To love mercy. To walk humbly with Him. These are not distant ideals. They are daily ways of living. To act justly is to choose what is right, especially in how we treat others. It is a commitment to fairness, honesty, and integrity. To love mercy is to move beyond obligation into compassion—to extend kindness, patience, and forgiveness, even when it is not easy. And to walk humbly with God is to live in steady awareness of His presence, trusting Him step by step.

Pause and reflect: Which of these feels most present in my life right now? Which feels most challenging? Are you quick to pursue justice, but slower to show mercy? Or perhaps you extend kindness easily, but struggle to walk humbly and depend on God? This verse does not call for perfection in all three at once, but for a life that grows in each over time.

Today, consider focusing on one of these movements. You might choose to act justly in a specific situation, to show mercy where it is needed, or to intentionally walk with God through moments of your day. You might pray, “Lord, guide me to live what You have shown me.” These are not grand gestures. They are steady, faithful steps. And as you walk in them, you begin to discover that what God requires is not burdensome—it is life-giving. A life shaped by justice, mercy, and humility becomes a life that reflects His heart.

Loving Father,

Thank You for showing me what is good and for guiding me in how to live. Help me to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with You.

Teach me to reflect Your character in my daily life. Give me wisdom to choose what is right, compassion to extend mercy, and humility to depend on You. Lead me step by step in Your ways.

All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
