June 6 — Returning with All Your Heart

“‘Yet even now,’ declares the LORD, ‘return to Me with all your heart, with fasting, weeping, and mourning.’ Rend your hearts and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion.”
— Joel 2:12-13

There is always a way back. These words begin with a phrase full of hope: “Yet even now…” No matter how far one has wandered, no matter how long the distance has grown, God’s invitation remains open. It is not too late to return. But this return is not meant to be superficial. “Rend your hearts and not your garments.” In Joel’s time, outward signs of sorrow were common. But God calls for something deeper—not just visible expression, but inward honesty. A true return begins in the heart.

Pause and reflect: Is there anything I need to bring honestly before God? Are there areas where your outward life appears steady, but inwardly you feel distant or divided? God is not asking for perfection—He is inviting sincerity. “Return to Me with all your heart…” This is not about partial attention or occasional turning. It is a wholehearted movement—a re-centering of your life toward God. And yet, this invitation is grounded not in fear, but in who God is: “He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion.” We return not because God is harsh, but because He is merciful.

Today, consider taking a moment of honest return. You might pray, “Lord, I come back to You fully.” Bring your thoughts, your concerns, your distractions, and your desires before Him. Let your return be real, even if it feels imperfect. God meets you in that honesty. And as you return, you may begin to experience again what has always been true—His grace is ready, His compassion is near, and His love remains steady.

Loving Father,

Thank You for Your invitation to return to You, even now. Thank You that You are gracious, compassionate, and full of loving devotion.

Help me to come to You with an honest and open heart. Remove anything that keeps me from fully turning toward You. Draw me close, and restore what has grown distant within me. Let my life be centered in You once again.

All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
